The Nissan Figaro is equipped with a 4 cylinder, turbocharged MA10ET engine which was specifically engineered for the chassis. The cast iron exhaust manifold is bolted directly to the cylinder head which in turn is bolted to the turbocharger. The manifold is designed to distribute hot exhaust gasses to the turbocharger in order to spin the assembly supplying pressurised cold air to the engine to promote a higher power output. The exhaust manifolds are a common failure due to their cast construction and thousands of heat cycles. Cracks can appear causing exhaust gasses to escape which can contribute to poor running of the vehicle and danger from high levels of carbon monoxide in the engine bay which can make its way into the cabin.
