This month, we are featuring a very special car. The designer, Wayne Hemingway MBE, recently brought us his classic Figaro.
Wayne Hemingway and his wife Gerardine co-founded the Red or Dead fashion label and stores. In 1999, they sold Red or Dead and set up HemingwayDesign, which specialises in affordable and social design.
Wayne’s classic Figaro was in good condition and we carried out a few structural repairs and some maintenance tasks, some MOT related repairs and we replaced all of the bumpers.
We also conducted a full Figaro Health Check and delivered an extensive report of recommendations for Wayne to consider.
Wayne’s car is especially interesting as he has been the only owner since he bought it in Japan via the original Figaro lottery system.
Originally, only 8,000 Figaros were available for purchase but then an additional 12,000 cars were added to meet demand. Prospective purchasers had to enter a lottery to be able to buy one of these limited edition cars. Wayne was one of those lucky purchasers and over 20 years later, with a little help from The Figaro Shop, he and his family are still enjoying his unique and very special Figaro.
