Figaros in Popular Culture

With such a classic reputation, it’s unsurprising to see the Figaro making its way down popular culture roads. From film to TV to successful Youtube channels, the iconic car has been spotted a number of times in recent years, characterised by its charming pastel shell, quaint little headlights leading the way.

Let’s look at some of Figgy’s most striking appearances:

The Sarah Jane Adventures

Perhaps his longest-standing appearances was here, on this spin-off TV series of BBC classic Doctor Who. In the show it was lead character Sarah Jane Smith who drove him, sometimes to school, other times in the pursuit of alien menaces and ghostly-goings on.

This particular car was noticeable for its distinctive mint green colouring, and seemed right at home in the esteemed company of another national heritage, the BBC.

The Big Screen

Not content with mere TV, Figgy was also spotted in the 2013 action/science-fiction film “Pacific Rim”. While he doesn’t quite steal the stage next to the titanic Jaegers, he is visible in Mako’s flashback of a Kaiju attack on Figgy’s native Tokyo, although you would be forgiven for missing him beneath the fleet of fighter jets soaring above.

YouTube

Anyone who’s anyone these days is popping up on Youtube, and Figgy is no exception. The popular channel Mighty Car Mods brought him in to replace one of their other cars, which had outlived its usefulness. While Figgy didn’t quite outmatch his competition, he gave as good as he got, and managed to claim a little air-time, too.

Okay, so he hasn’t broken the Internet, or taken Hollywood by storm. But it’s still a delight to see the Figaro’s classic design gracing even the most modern media channels, surviving with all the willpower and determination that we most love about him.

Long live the Figaro!
