The Nissan Figaro’s cylinder head, when cast out of aluminium, has had specific holes bored through it for machining access for critical components within the head itself. Once completed, these holes are then closed with core plugs. These are a direct replacement for the original core plugs located on the side of the cylinder head.

The core plugs can leak over time from corrosion and from the amount of heat cycles they have endured. There are 2 core plugs on the cylinder head and both are located behind and below the cam pulley. The larger of the 2 is located behind the cam pulley and the smaller one is below the pulley. If these are leaking, the engine will lose coolant and potentially overheat if left unchecked.
