The Nissan Figaro employs the use of a mechanical speedometer driven by a cable from the gearbox output to the speedometer unit itself. The cable itself is subjected to temperature variations, rotational wear and tear and has to be flexible enough to bend through the body of the car to the speedometer unit iself. This cable can wear causing the speedometer to become inoperational due to age.
