The Nissan Figaro has been equipped with a smooth and effortless 3 speed automatic transmission. The power to the gearbox is passed from the torque converter which is turn is attached to the flywheel/flexplate of the engine. In order to keep this area of the gearbox bellhousing free of road grime heavy debris, the use of a gearbox spacer plate is used.

The spacer plate is a zinc plated, stamped and specifically shaped plate that is sandwiched between the engine block and the gearbox bell housing and has a number of functions on the Nissan Figaro. As both the engine block and gearbox are made of an aluminium alloy, the zinc plated plate prevents galling of the two faces. It also helps to ensure all of the components are aligned correctly are finally it helps prevent the ingress of external dirt and debris. As this plate is very thin, it can get damaged on removal of the transmission/engine and as the tolerances are very fine, a bent spacer plate can cause the flexplate/flywheel to rub against it making a loud noise.
